Video of Marcos Maidana’s corner between rounds 11 & 12; speculation that Alex Ariza may have been administering a PED on a napkin for Maidana to inhale

This video has caused many to speculate that something shady took place, though it looks inocuous to me.

Victor Conte (it must be noted, a longtime foe of Ariza) has speculated the use of epinphrine, an illegal stimulant.

In 2010, he shared his belief that Joshua Clottey used this PED when he fought Manny Pacquiao:

  1. I think it’s too late but also a shame if there is one shread of fact to it . I doubt it because it would have been discovered in earlier fights of Maidana .

    • Yep, we’ll likely never know with 100% certainty, but I’m inclined to think that people are making a mountain out of a molehill and it’s a stretch to say that what’s happening in that brief clip is the inhalation of an adrenaline solution

  2. yeah,i can really imagine Maidana’s corner would administer an illegal PED while the camera was all over them and also jeapordize Maidana’s win in the 12th round….lol….sad people will come up with any nonsense if the truth doesn’t fit with their small minded view of the world…Maidana won, move on,it’s hardly an upset,Broner was full of hot air,Maidana deflated him,end of.

      • That’s my take, too.

The overrated Broner was being groomed for the top slot in the business. The belief that he was a Mayweather-in-waiting will not be given up without a good few thumpings of the conspiracy gavel.

  3. what kind of drug can make a fighter perform better? what I watched from the very beginning was Maidana’s bothersome style, he not only kept coming but his punches were coming also and from every direction. It is very difficult to defend against this kind of slugger unless you have a near perfect defensive style which would allow smooth elusiveness, which broner did not have, that is why he was deflated so badly and experienced for the first time what it is like to get the ‘c…p’ beat out of him…and if someone actually believes there was drugs involved that could be tested.

    • You obviously have no idea about what performance enhancing drugs are, or just how terribly inept the doping protocols in boxing are.

That said, this video looks inocuous to me, and, while I’m sure illegal substances are on occasion slipped to fighters between rounds, it’s a stretch to say this footage is evidence of that.
