  1. Emanuel Steward turned Wladimir into a superb manager of space and tempo.

Who do you give the best odds against him, Jeremy?

    • I think that given Wlad’s skillset and the current level of competition, we may never have seen a more dominant HW champion

Honestly, I don’t see anyone out there who can give him a competitive fight, let alone beat him

But if I had to pick one, I’d say Wilder, simply because of his raw power. What do you think?

  2. I think you’re right.

As far as dethroning Wladimir, if it ever happens it will take someone who is equally tall, very strong and multi-dimensional. Wilder fills the first two bills but as we’ve said, we’ve only seen one dimension from him. For all we know he’s going to become a footnote after his first real battle.

In recent boxing history, I think a prime Lennox Lewis would have been an exciting test. They have a lot in common in their reliance on the thunderous jab to keep attacks at bay while setting up very simple but lethal one-two combinations. Too bad they couldn’t have fought a trilogy! (Memories of carved-up Vitali float into memory in a fight I still like to watch from time to time.)

    • Lewis-Vitali is still the last great HW title fight

I think a prime Lewis would knock out Wlad, but they are both great champions. Given his size advantage over HW champs of earlier generations, I think Lewis might be literally the best boxer ever, i.e. I’d favour him to beat anybody all-time in a prime vs prime meeting
