  1. “Guys: you need show? You need amazing show? Just call me!”

Gennady Godzilla! Just what boxing needs — world-wrecking power and abundant natural charisma. Geale gave it the old college try and bravely, too.

I’d love to see GGG in with Cotto. Miguel’s advantages in mobility, defense and elite experience would make this a very exciting fight.

  2. Maybe! GGG does rehydrate up to 190 on fight night. There’d have to be a catchweight. Could be Cotto’s past it, too, even if the disassembly of an ailing Martinez was impressive.

I’m a fan, but I don’t think we’ve seen Golovkin prove he is more than power coming forward. Someone with angles, better footwork and a body attack will be a test.

    • GGG has immense amateur pedigree and I think he’s far more nuanced in his attack than just a come forward destroyer like Matthysse for example. He cuts off the ring beautifully and has top class footwork. Ward is the only fighter who can beat him at 160/8 imo

190???? Seriously, 30 lbs? How is that possible?

  3. Yes, 190 seems way too much. I can’t find the source again now that I want it, so either it was wrong or I misread. I have found Sanchez from last April saying his fighter would weigh 172 on fight night.

We will know a lot more about GGG when he starts fighting A-list people. I give him good odds and wish him the best — he combines excitement with class.

    • 172 is a good weight on fight night. I too look forward to GGG taking on the “big names”, although someone like Chavez at 168 is actually probably inferior to the likes of Macklin & certainly Geale

Titlist Sam Soliman probably the most likely next step for Golovkin
